What is a Yidam Deity in Tibetan Buddhism
@insightstate A yidam is a mind bond, directly translated. That means that a specific figurative representation should remind you of the qualities you meditate about. For example the Vajrayogini that is pictured here is nude because she stands for naked truth and pure wisdom.
Deity is just a bad translation of yidam. Bad because it makes readers think that there is entity that has to be worshipped. Actually there is no Vajrayogini except the helpful concept that should help us to develop beneficial virtues.
