It is believed that the Kalachakra was passed down from the Buddha to the people of Shambhala. There, the knowledge was kept safe until the arrival of the Dalai Llama whom then received the understanding to transmit the revelations to all humanity.

1. Earth element circle filled with interlocking crosses representing earth’s stability

2. Water element circle containing wavelike ripples

3-4.  This whole area is known as the cemetery grounds and is composed of the fire element and the wind element. Between fire and air lay the 88 sanskrit seed syllables.

5. Space element circle containing an interlocking fence of golden vajras

6. Wisdom element circle, also known as the Great Protective Circle. Here the elements earth, water, fire and air combine and act as a single force, consciousness.
